Kiji's Blue Suede Shoes-moderate risk for cataract, low risk for hip dysplasia, and very low risk for epilepsy. COI is 19.0%
The things that you should be concerned about are those that are of moderate or higher risk. In his case that means only cataract. Cataracts can happen almost anytime in life, but are very rare under a year. If a dog is normal at 4 it is unlikely to get them though a few will. From a breeding standpoint, you will not want to select mates with recent family histories of cataract.
COIs are a calculation of the level of inbreeding in an individual or cross. 12.5% is equivalent to a half-sib mating, 25% to a parent/offspring mating. Most show line Aussies average around 12.5%. Working lines are variable though on average they are lower. Ideally, the COI of a litter should not exceed an average of that of the two parents. However, one should try to avoid exceeding 12.5% and, when possible try to achieve something lower. COIs in excess of 20% should be discouraged. Higher COIs increase the probability that unwanted genes coming down from an ancestor common to both sides of the pedigree will match up. Autoimmune problems are also more frequent in animals with higher levels of COI.
